Amusing Pregnancy Test Ad Goes Viral Online

January 27, 2017 By Joe Hennessey

A pregnancy test ad has gone viral on the Internet.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – Pregnancy is seldom considered amusing. Most couples would exhibit an equal amount of joy over the perspective of parenthood and dread when thinking about the burden of raising and educating a child. There are many medical devices on the market which can determine if a woman is pregnant or not, the most accurate of them being the pregnancy test.

And where there’s a market, there’s undoubtedly the need to sell and to advertise a product. Predictor, a somewhat notorious brand from the United States of America, has employed a quaint strategy in order to promote a pregnancy test.

A quick look at the picture used to promote the Predictor pregnancy test doesn’t say much – a young couple standing in the middle of a soon-to-be nursery. They are both casually dressed and have an expression of astonishment on their faces.

The husband gently grabs his wife’s shoulder and looks at something she holds in her hand. However, the woman looks as though she had an epiphany regarding the meaning of life. The big box located in the lower right corner of the add makes the viewer understand that this is a pregnancy test commercial.

There is nothing out of the ordinary with this picture – just a regular couple who finds out that they are going to become parents. However, there’s one detail that gives the picture an entirely different meaning – the woman using the pregnancy test has a round and firm belly, which is probably one of the signs associated with late pregnancy.

So, this means that the woman, who is weeks away from giving birth, took a pregnancy test to make sure she’s pregnant. At this point, we cannot say for certain whether the ad’s creators overlooked this ‘small’ detail or if it’s part of their marketing campaign.

Now, if the creators omitted this detail, then this ad is probably the textbook definition of redundancy. On the other hand, if they deliberately added this Picante detail, then this is one of the most brilliant advertisements ever made.

Needless to say, that the Predictor pregnancy test ad became viral on the Internet and the subject of many jokes. Shared thousands of times on social media channels, the pregnancy test ad has received some of the funniest comments. For example, a Twitter user, who shall remain nameless, commented that the pregnancy test wasn’t for the woman, but for her husband.
