Based on recent reports, Apple hires auto industry expert and confirms rumors of an electric car. Doug Betts has announced on his personal social network account that he has become the new Operations Manager of the Cupertino-based company starting in July, but the news has not yet been confirmed by the smartphone producer.
Following in the footsteps of their longtime rivals from Google, Apple is preparing a new electric car that could compete against Google’s driverless prototype. These rumors have become all the more obvious on early Tuesday morning when news publications were first informed that Doug Betts, an auto industry expert will join Apple’s team of developers.
Doug Betts has made a reputation in the auto industry after working for well-renowned auto companies in the past 25 years. He has had a good career evolution and many work-related achievements during his period at Nissan and Toyota. Before accepting the new position that was offered to him by Apple, Betts covered the position of head of quality within the Chrysler Group. The CEO left his former position last year, when he declared that he will be pursuing other interests.
This week, however, the former auto industry veteran has informed his followers that he will be working for Apple in the following period. No further details have been provided in relation to the project that the new Operations Officer will develop and Apple’s spokespersons did not confirm the news.
Given the past experience of the auto industry expert, it goes without saying that the iPhone manufacturer is tackling the possibility of producing a new Apple car. These rumors are grounded on the past declaration that the company has made in relation to their intention of producing electric cars.
Market analysts believe Apple is right when choosing to invest in the field of electric cars as this domain is very promising at present. Moreover, Apple has been reportedly working on a secret project related to electric cars called “Titan”. However, the company has refused to disclose any information in relation to this aspect, so market analysts cannot say whether the company is expanding its services or not.
