(Mirror Daily, United States) October was declared the breast cancer awareness month by the president of the United States. As a sign of solidarity with victims and a way of raising awareness about the disease, the White House turned pink last night, the standard color of breast cancer campaigns. This is the eighth year in a row when the event occurs at the White House.
The tradition of the pink colors at the White House was set back in 2008, by President George W. Bush. Hundreds of people watched the lights from the outside. Usually, the event happened earlier in October.
The breast cancer awareness month is meant to educate people about the disease and means of prevention. Although there are no identified causes of the condition, doctors still have some guidelines for women, so that they can make sure they don’t face the risk of developing the disease.
According to health specialists, a sedentary lifestyle can increase the chances of developing breast cancer. So if you spent more than six hours a day sitting, you should go for a fast walk for at least ten minutes a day. A sedentary lifestyle can lead to an increase of ten percent chances of developing the disease, while exercise drops it by eighteen percent.
Specialists also suggest that green tea can help you prevent the disease. All you have to do is drink three cups a day. Doctors explain that this habit can reduce the risks of breast cancer by half.
Another diet-related piece of advice from health experts is that people should consume less omega-6 fat and more omega-3 fat. They should also use olive oil instead of corn oil, and avoid fat, heavy dressings.
Statistics show that breast cancer is one of the most common types of the disease. It is also one of the leading causes of death among Americans. Approximately twelve percent of the women in the United States are diagnosed with the disease every year. The breast cancer awareness month is also meant to honor the memory of victims, as well as encourage patients who are still fighting the disease.
Another important purpose of raising awareness about breast cancer is encouraging women to go for tests and scans to the doctor. Since the disease can be latent, there are no visible signs of it and only medical tests can detect it. Early identification increases the chances of survival in patients, as doctors could noticed across their carriers.
