A man from Cleveland gunned down a septuagenarian while live streaming on Facebook.
Recently, the Cleveland Police Department declared that the nation-wide manhunt for Steve Stephens, the man who gunned down a septuagenarian and posted his deed on Facebook, continues. Although the authorities have received numerous tips on Stephens’ whereabouts, the Cleveland Police Department stated that the suspect can be anywhere in the country by now and that the last time he was seen was on the 16th of April, when he shot his victim.
Facebook Reveals the Last Moments of Godwin’s Life
Steve Stephens of Cleveland is wanted for the murder of 74-year-old Robert Godwin Senior, a man whom Stephens gunned down on the 16th of April while broadcasting on Facebook Live. According to the Cleveland Police Department, the video clip depicting Stephens’ brutal murder lingered for at least two hours on his social media account before it was removed.
Calvin Williams, Cleveland’s Chief of Police, declared that the suspect could be anywhere by now, more reason why the authorities should pursue the manhunt. Williams stated that despite police receiving tips from all over the country, they have yet to determine Stephens’ location.
Moreover, it appears that the septuagenarian Stephens gunned down on the 16th of April might not be his only victim. During his live-streaming session, the man claims that Godwin Sr. wasn’t his only victim and that he murdered at least 15 other people. However, Williams believes that the suspect might have been boasting, as the authorities did not find anything to back up the suspect’s claims.
Cleveland’s Chief of Police said that the authorities are offering a $50,000 reward to anyone who offers a tip that can lead to the capture of Steve Stephens.
The Gruesome Details of Cleveland Shooting
As for the murder, which was live-streamed on Facebook, the details are horrific, to say the least. Before Facebook’s moderators could remove the offensive video from the man’s social account, Stephens’ followers could see the man stalking his victim.
After seeing Robert Godwin Sr. standing on the other side of the street, carrying a plastic shopping bag, the suspect gets out of his vehicle and goes to talk with him. The man’s intention seemed somewhat innocent, at first. He casually walked up to his victim and asked him for a small favor – to say the name of Joy Lane in front of the rolling camera.
When Godwin asked Stephens who Joy Lane is, the man replied that she is the reason why he will be killed today. Before gunning down his victim, Stephens asked Godwin Sr. to tell his age in front of the camera.
The authorities believe that the gunner was well-acquainted with his victim. Joy Lane, the last name Godwin Sr. uttered before his death, is Stephens’ former girlfriend. When reached by the reporters, the woman refused to comment on the incident saying that she is shocked to hear about the man’s deed, considering that he has nice to her and her children.
