(Mirror Daily, United States) – A six-year old girl from Texas was affected by a set of horrendous side-effects after she was given Tamiflu to ease flu symptoms. Her parents were convinced to give the girl the tremendously popular drug by their physician.
The side-effects included hallucinations, a suicide attempt, and disruptive behavior at school. Her father recalls that his wife prevented the girl from jumping out of the window in the last moment. The girl was reportedly trying to escape hallucinations and climbed onto her desk to reach the open window.
When parents took her to the ER, a medic told them that it must be from Tamiflu as, in some rare cases, the drug can cause psychosis in young nervous systems. ER doctor Dr. Glenn Hardesty confirmed that the side-effect is rare, but it was not unheard of.
However, Hardesty acknowledged that he hasn’t seen complications running so wild in his entire 20-year career. The side-effects are usually written in fine print, but they are there to prevent the company from being sued.
Parents would Have Liked to Be Informed
The Texas girl’s family said they would have liked to be informed. Her father said he would have gladly skipped the hallucinations part and let his daughter experience the flu symptoms for 16 more hours instead.
[Side effects] are written down for a reason. I guess they can happen, and we got the short end of the stick,
the girl’s father told reporters.
Other parents confirmed that the side-effects are there and affecting their children. Worldwide, there were multiple reports of children having hallucinations after taking Tamiflu. Some parents recall that their little ones begged them to make “the voices” stop or to not let them hurt them.
Some parents said that hallucinations lasted for weeks after the drug administration was halted. Japan banned the drug for kids and teens in 2007 following multiple hallucinations-triggered suicide attempts.
