(Mirror Daily, United States) – ‘Tis the season to drink a cup of hot cocoa. Unfortunately, there will be no festive sprinkles on top of the whipped cream because the United States is currently facing a national whipped cream shortage. The good news is that you can stock up on mini marshmallows, so your festive warm beverage will not be entirely ruined. Your desserts, on the other hand, may suffer extensive damage.
While it may sound like a joke, it is not. A Florida plant that produces nitrous oxide was affected by a deadly explosion this August, thus leaving the country to deal with a nitrous oxide shortage.
Whipped cream manufacturers rely on the gas in order to deliver the pressurized light topping. However, they are not the only ones in need of it. Nitrous oxide is also used in various medical supplies, so the remaining factories are prioritizing their orders in accordance.
Supermarkets around the country have started to display signs apologizing for the absence of the popular product. The canned topping can still be found in some stores, but employees are advising Americans to start stocking up as the reserve will soon be gone. Especially now when everybody is preparing for Christmas meals and earning for some winter delights.
In the case in which the national whipped cream shortage has already affected your pantry, there are a few ways to overcome the crisis.
The easiest solution is to replace the canned version with the frozen option. It may not be as easy to whip out, but it is still a suitable substitute.
Another solution is to make your own whipped cream. It is one of the easiest recipes in the world of desserts, so not even the most estranged cooks will fail their whipping mission.
In order to make your own whipped cream, you will need cream, sugar, and a mixer. Whip the cream while slowly adding the sugar until it hardens and it gains its fluffy, airy texture. That is the secret. It is easy and, some might argue, healthier than the canned version.
Producers are still not sure when the national whipped cream shortage will end, but they are trying their best to keep shelves on a minimum stock.
Until further news, happy whipping.
