Lindsay authorities have apprehend a suspect in the case of The California Deputy Shooting.
Sheriff’s office confirmed that a suspect was apprehended in the case of the California Deputy Shooting. Adam Christianson, the county’s sheriff, declared that a male suspect believed to have shot a deputy twice in the head was caught on Sunday evening, after trying to steal a woman’s purse.
On Sunday, Sheriff’s Deputy Dennis Wallace responded to a call regarding a suspicious van abandoned near the town’s fishing spot.
According to Christianson, Wallace’s former superior, the investigation revealed that this wasn’t a wanton crime, and all clues point towards execution. After getting out of his car, the police officer proceeded to inspect the van.
Shortly after, according to authorities, the suspect, shot the Sheriff’s Deputy twice in the head. Christianson said that the deputy was shot at point blank given the severity of his wounds. Before exiting his car to investigate, the deputy called for reinforcements.
It would seem that after the suspect, one David Machado, shot the law enforcement officer, he fled the scene of the crime and carjacked another vehicle which he used to escape. Christianson declared that after stealing a white Kia Sedan, Machado proceeded to the nearby town of Lindsay, where he committed an armed robbery.
The police were still on his trail but did not manage to apprehend him until they’ve got a call from a distressed woman, living in the same town. According to Lindsay’s police department, Machado tried to steal a purse from a woman passing on the street.
The woman managed to fight off her assailant and to call the local police. Shortly after, the authorities arrived at the scene and took the suspect into custody.
However, Lindsay’s Police Department was unable to recognize the suspect at the time. Some time later, his identity was established, and they were able to assess his connection with the California Deputy Shooting based on his tattoos and a photograph taken by Stanislaus County.
Christianson said that these were not the only crimes committed by the suspect and that multiple warrants were issued in his name.
At this moment, Wallace’s friends, colleagues, and family members have gathered near the fishing hole in order to mourn the police officer killed in the line of duty. The California Deputy Shooting was the fifth incident in the last five weeks.
According to various sources, a deputy was shot and killed in Modoc County, two other in Palm Spring and another in Lancaster.
