Hand Hygiene Crucial in The Medical Field

June 12, 2016 By John Birks

Man washing his hands

Hand hygiene is important for our health.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – Ever since we were kids, our parents taught us that washing our hands is healthy, especially before and after a meal. Therefore, hand hygiene is one of the many life-long habits that every single one of us should have.

Plus, washing our hands is more than a habit as it is one of the primary measures of precaution that we take against bacteria and other viruses. If we think about doctors, they are regarded as the people who need to keep their hands clean at all times because the health and the lives of so many patients lie in their hands.

In other words, the world’s health care environment relies on hand hygiene.

Unfortunately, the real situation does not look so bright after the latest social experiment. A team of researchers observed the hospital staff from Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC) in San Jose, California, by using a set of young volunteers and Infection Prevention (IP) nurses.

Based on the results, scientists established that human behavior drastically changes depending whether they are observed while washing their hands or not. The statistics revealed that the staff washed their hands according to the hygiene rules 22 percent of the time when a volunteer was present whereas the staff observed by IP nurses respected hand hygiene regulations 57 percent of the time.

In both cases, the situation looks dangerous, as the risk increases for viruses and bacteria to pass from one patient to another. According to Maricris Niles, infection prevention analyst at SCVMC, the Infection Prevention nurses observed something else compared to the volunteers.

Therefore, Lisa Hansford, one of the IP nurses, underlined that providers and nurses were not using the alcohol to wash their hands.

Furthermore, human behavior proves to be something hard to change. Therefore, a new approach must be developed to tackle this problem and to make the medical field safer for everyone.

All of these findings were presented a few days ago at the Association for Professionals Infection Control and Epidemiology meeting in North Carolina in order to raise awareness of this problem and underline the fact that new regulations would be needed to make the entire medical staff throughout the United States understand the importance of hand hygiene.

Infinity Ward Will Develop the 2016 Call of Duty

February 12, 2016 By Matthew Slotkin Leave a Comment

"Call of Duty Advanced Warfare poster"

The Call of Duty franchise has been on the market for almost fifteen years now.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – Activision has officially confirmed that Infinity Ward will develop the 2016 Call of Duty. The news of this comes only a few days after Activision announced that the company will launch a new Destiny game next year.

This is the first Call of Duty game developed by Infinity Ward after Activision implemented the three-year rotation between Sledgehammer, Treyarch and Infinity Ward. The last game in the CoD franchise that was developed by Infinity Ward was Ghosts and it was released in 2013. That was also the first CoD to be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Sledgehammer released Advanced Warfare in 2014 and Treyarch released Black Ops III in 2015. There are no significant differences between the three, apart from the fact that in Advanced Warfare Sledgehammer decided to introduce zombies into the picture.

In the last years, the franchise started to drift away from its original focus on historical battles. Among the real-life wars that could have been a source of inspiration for the military FPS was the Vietnam War. But unfortunately, the Call of Duty Vietnam was cancelled alongside other failed attempts like Combined Forces, Devil’s Brigade, Tactics and the Real-Time Card Game.

The plot of the 2016 Call of Duty was not made public by Infinity Ward, but fans are expecting the dystopian future setting that has claimed the franchise ever since the Black Ops II game was released. Mark Rubin did hint about CoD moving into outer space, but it was not an official statement.

But there might be a problem with the latest Call of Duty installment. Treyarch has announced a few DLCs for the extraordinarily well-received Black Ops III. And it’s cheaper to buy DLCs for a game that you already know than to buy a new one.

The Call of Duty franchise has been keeping players glued to their seats for fifteen years now. And the game’s mechanics are much more a part of the CoD tradition than the historical settings. This is why it is obvious that Infinity Ward will develop the 2016 Call of Duty with enhanced game mechanics.

Activision has earned over $780 million out of Downloadable Content alone in 2015. The total amount of earnings reached $2.12 billion in only the fourth quarter of 2015.

In total, the company which is based in sunny California earned $4.62 billion in 2015, a little less than $4.81 billion in 2014. But 2014 was the year of Destiny and Advanced Warfare, so we understand the difference. And if Infinity Wards will develop the 2016 Call of Duty, and Treyarch will release new DLCs for Black Ops III, 2016 will be a great year for Activision.
