Climate Change Trumped Trump

March 25, 2016 By Joe Hennessey Leave a Comment

"Trump water"

The billionaire Republican candidate believes climate change is the same thing as seasonal weather.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – When it comes to giving lengthy answers that say nothing, the presidential candidate is a lead authority. But that might be his only area of expertise because recently climate change trumped Trump.

In the last paragraph of the transcript published by the Washington Post, Trump was asked his opinion on climate change. The answer given by the Republican candidate is as rhetorical as always, but it’s also very wrong.

The billionaire showed that he was oblivious to everything related to climate change, even the very definition of the theory. Climate change trumped Trump, but the presidential candidate is not worried about anything because, according to the statistics, his followers share his belief system.

“I think there’s a change in weather. I am not a great believer in man-made climate change. I’m not a great believer.”

This is how his answer begun. Naturally, he made used of his signature rhetorical style. The beginning is promising. It sounds like he is informed about the subject but chose to ignore it because it stands against his beliefs. But then he proceeded on saying that

“There is certainly a change in weather that goes – if you look, they had global cooling in the 1920s, and now they have global warming, although now they don’t know if they have global warming.”

Apparently, Trump is not that informed as he first appeared to be. He makes three mistakes in just one phrase.

For starters, climate change is not what he thinks it is. Because judging from his answer, for him, a rainy morning followed by a sunny afternoon is equal to climate change. But that’s just how weather works.

Secondly, he is a bit off in his timeline. In the 1970s, a significant number of climate change researchers believed that the Earth is heading towards a new ice age. But their theories were short lived, and the fuss died out as abruptly as it began.

And third, global warming and global cooling theories make up climate change. But after this, he keeps on saying that

“They call [climate change] all sort of things; now they’re using “extreme weather” I guess more than any other phrase.”

It seems that climate change trumped Trump completely. The term “extreme weather” is usually used when a meteorological phenomenon is more violent than usual. Take El Nino for instance. In the past year, the occurrence was even more powerful, and it contributed to the disappearance of a large Bolivian lake. Climate change is what causes extreme weather.

But the billionaire presidential candidate cannot be swayed.

“Perhaps there’s a minor effect, but I’m not a big believer in man-made climate change.”

Emory Students Are Afraid of Trump

March 24, 2016 By Melissa Gansler Leave a Comment

"Donald Trump"

Trump is loved by his supporters because he is not afraid of expressing his opinions.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – Presidential campaigns are ruining college life. A few days ago, a surprise chalk graffiti managed to stir things up at a local university. The Emory students are afraid of Trump and consider the political propaganda that was written on the walls of the University a way in which their white, privileged peers were telling them to pack their bags.

Monday morning, instead of sleepily shaking off their hangovers while heading out to breakfast to start another school week, students received a big, chalky surprise. Instead of plain traditional walls, they were greeted by pro-Trump messages written all over the campus’ buildings.

Things like “Trump for Press”, “Vote for Trump”, and “Accept the Inevitable: Trump 2016” stood written in big, chalky letters. It may be that the messages were the result of a drunken dare or the open support of Trump aficionados. No matter the intention behind the campaign scribblings, the minority groups took great offense.

Emory students are afraid of Trump, at least, all of the minorities are. When asked by The Daily Beast about the feelings that the slogans brought up, the students started declaring that Trump supporters are not ordinary political enthusiasts, and they literally fear for their life.

One of the students said that the first thing that came into her mind after seeing the messages was the fact that the campus was organizing a KKK meeting. Emory students are afraid of Trump and anybody who associates with the presidential candidate because he openly declared his hate towards a lot of the minorities present in the United States.

A group of Muslim, Latino, and African-American students organized themselves and sent an official e-mail to the university’s representatives. They were asking the right to remove the threatening political slogans from campus property. They were denied permission due to the fact that the removal of the messages would inspire censorship, thus menacing the right of free speech.

Following the provisions of the First Amendment, the minority groups started handing out flyers that opposed Trump’s candidacy and urged other students to think twice before supporting the businessman.

The Emory students are afraid of Trump because the presidential candidate is threatening to deport them and their parents. And even though he didn’t declare in on television, his followers are even spreading the word about the imminent construction of concentration camps.

While it sounds like a ruse, sadly it is not. Emory students are afraid of Trump, and not because he wants to raise education taxes. But because he is a declared racist and attacks members of different minorities every time he gets the opportunity.

Bernie Sanders Fueled Mental Disorders Stigma

March 13, 2016 By Tara Hamilton Leave a Comment

"Bernie Sanders"

Sanders joked about the fact that the Republicans are living proof of US’ mental health problems.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – The presidential race is making the candidates show their ugly sides. While Donald Trump managed to attract the wrath of all immigrants with his racial slurs, Bernie Sanders fueled mental disorders stigma. According to the Democrat candidate, having a mental issue is something that can be used as an argument against you.

Last week at a Democrat debate with Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders fueled mental disorders stigma. He managed to do so by stating that if he wins the elections, he will offer more funds for mental health research because if people would only look at the Republican candidates, they would understand that the United States has a serious mental health issue.

Even though it is not the first time a presidential candidate attracts the wrath of a minority, in fact, it’s not even the first time when Sanders publicly managed to insult a group of people; there have been grave consequences after the he made that statement.

It is clear that the United States has a significant problem when it comes to mental health. And the flaw is not the people suffering from mental illnesses, but the ones who prefer to use such a disorder only to insult an opposing candidate.

Unfortunately, almost ninety percent of United States citizens suffer from a kind of mental illness. It could be depression, anxiety, bulimia, anorexia, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, bi-polar syndrome, or many other problems that affect millions of Americans every day.

But most of the mental health issues listed above can be treated with extensive therapy, the right medication and the full support of family and friends. But how can a person be brave enough to admit that he or she is suffering from a mental health disorder when a presidential candidate considers the entire idea offensive?

Bernie Sanders fueled mental disorders stigma when he tried to offend the Republican candidates. Because the presidential candidate thinks that a mental issue is something offensive, an undesirable character trait.

Apparently, the debate was followed by lots of requests formulated by different mental health organizations in which they asked the Democrat to apologize publicly to the actual people that he offended with his not so pleasant pleasantry.

The man that hopes to take the seat behind the Oval Office in a country where most of the former soldiers suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder thinks mental health issues are a joke.

Bernie Sanders fueled mental disorders stigma while trying to offend the Republican candidates in a country in which roughly ninety percent of people suffer from a type of mental condition.

Talking About the Man and the Ideas behind @DeepDrumpf

March 5, 2016 By Ryan Harris Leave a Comment

"Donald Trump"

Donald Trump is one of the most controversial presidential candidates.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – Politics is rough and though, especially when the elections are just around the corner. And there are a lot of people out there who take more pleasure in debating the debates or making fun of some candidates. One Twitter account, in particular, has attracted a lot of attention lately, because it does terrific impersonations of Donald Trump, and the mind behind them is an artificial neural network.

Plenty of people are talking about the man and the ideas behind @DeepDrumpf, and that is also what we are going to do next.

Bradley Hayes is the man that managed to turn the Republican candidate’s speeches into hilarious tweets. And even though the texts are written by artificial intelligence, they sometimes sound exactly like something Trump would say.

The MIT postdoctoral associate who is into robotics research says that he reprogrammed an artificial neural network so that it was able to both study and emulate Trump’s speeches.

Momentarily all of the source material comes from debates, so the robot behind the very popular Twitter account has a bit of a hard time recognizing a speech pattern. This is mostly due to the fact that during the debates, the candidates often tend to interrupt each other, leaving sentences in mid-air.

Hayes said that the idea behind @DeepDrumpf came to him one day while he was having lunch with his colleagues. Scientists can’t just stop speaking science, not even when they’re enjoying a sandwich together. And in one of these instances Hayes and his fellow robotics researchers were talking about different techniques of statistical modeling.

After a while, he read an article about the complexity of the speeches of various political candidates. The piece was talking about the simplistic nature of Donald Trump’s argumentations. The simpler the Republican candidate speaks, the more fans he gathers because people need a representative that communicates in their language.

This was when the idea behind @DeepDrumpf completely formed and Hayes decided to reprogram the AI. What is astonishing is that the robot, which functions extremely well sometimes, is nothing but a weekend project for the MIT postdoctoral associate.

The algorithm behind the tweets is relatively complicated, and the AI still has a lot to learn about the person it is trying to mimic, so sometimes Hayes helps the robot create posts.

He gives the program an incentive, for example, [Hillary is], and then the artificial intelligence generates a series of characters. Hayes then chooses the ones that make the more sense and puts them in a tweet.

A lot of people are talking about the man and the ideas behind @DeepDrumpf. Some members of the social media platform expressed the fact that they would rather vote for Drumpf instead of Trump.
