Mental Health and Other Services this May

May 19, 2016 By John Birks

"mental health month"

May is the Mental Health month.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – A new event regarding Mental Illness will be presented at Blue Wahoos Stadium this Saturday. The event is called “Ending the Silence” Walk, and it aims to enhance services for every individual that suffers from mental health illness and to raise awareness.

The registration will be available starting 7 a.m., and the walk will begin at 8 a.m. sharp. Even if teams and groups are encouraged, individuals may also attend the event. Preregistration is available on the website. In case your team has ten members or more, the registration fee is 10$ per individual, whereas if you come alone, or your team has less than ten members, then you have to pay a $15 registration fee.

Another event will take place on the 26th of May. It is a workshop called “Sustaining Our Future” hosted by the Tobacco Free Santa Rosa Coalition. Anyone who wants to attend this workshop should be present at 6 p.m.  in the main conference room of the Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County, 5527 Stewart Street, Milton.

At this event are expected human resource managers, community partners, small business owners and coalition members to discuss optimizing employee health, smoking cessation, and smoke-free multi-unit housing.

There will also be many bloodmobile locations that will host events aiming to collect samples from all types of platelets and blood, which are vital for patients who suffer from cancer. The event duration will be from Friday to Sunday. Plus, donors must be in good health, have parental consent, be at least 16 years old, have an 110-pound weight and a picture ID.

Every donor will first go through a wellness checkup of the pulse, temperature, iron count, blood pressure and a cholesterol screening.

Furthermore, the Mobile Mammography Unit from the West Florida Hospital will go to various locations to provide 35-year-old women or older, with high-quality mammography services. These services will be offered by an all-female staff of licensed and nationally certified technologists. Most insurances, including Medicare, will be filed by the West Florida Hospital.

Last but not least, Sacred Heart System will offer free osteoporosis and heart-health screenings in Pensacola for poor or uninsured adults and elderly. Osteoporosis screenings will measure bone density while the other screenings will be able to detect anemia, measure blood sugar, total cholesterol and blood pressure.

Plus, they will also help in diagnosing conditions that make people vulnerable to diabetes, stroke, heart attack and other health problems.
