Climate Change G-7 Agreement

May 16, 2016 By Ryan Harris

Paris agreement tackles climate change.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – The representatives and environment ministers from the Group of Seven nations (G-7) found the answer to improve and preserve the climate situation concerning everyone.

After two days of discussions in Toyama, all the participants decided to adopt the Paris climate accord and presented their ideas and plans to win against the climate change effect before the 2020 deadline.

According to the Environment Minister, Tamayo Marukawa, the G-7 will immediately take action against climate change regarding the Paris Agreement. This gathering was possible after in December, 200 nations complied at the U.N. conference that every country should bring its contribution in restricting the greenhouse gas emission.

Plus, over 170 countries signed the agreement together with the G-7 promise to take measures and be efficient in curbing heat-trapping gas emissions. The agreement was signed by all G-7 members, such as the United States, Italy, Japan, Germany, France, Canada, Britain, the European Union, and China. More precisely, 55 nations accounting for 55 percent of global emissions will be part of this agreement.

Moreover, the G-7 ministers not only promised, but vowed to make every possible effort to come up with long-term strategies to curb emissions and to hand this plan to the United Nations. The target of every country is to lower the temperature by 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels to prevent severe consequences of climate change.

In addition to that, they must succeed until 2020 and communicate the results to the United Nations about the strategies they used concerning the long-term low greenhouse gas emission.

According to the G-7 members, the residents of every city play the most important role in this fight against climate change. Why? Because the population continues to grow, meaning that citizens must become more responsible, have a more ecological perspective and act in a way that will protect the environment.

To increase the efficiency of this task, governments are the ones that should provide everyone with the adequate information regarding this issue.  This information must be conveyed into methods that will pay off.

The other important issue is food waste. The United Nations statistics showed that one-third of the entire amount of food produced, more precisely 1.3 billion tons worth $1 trillion, go straight in the bins of consumers.

The next part of the plan against climate change will be another G-7 summit on May 26 and 27 in Mie Prefecture.

Safety Check Was Glitchy Over the Weekend

March 28, 2016 By Ryan Harris Leave a Comment

"Facebook"

The Safety Check feature is handy in the case of an emergency.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – Facebook is constantly trying to improve user experience by implementing new and unique tools. A while back, it invented the Safety Check, and it performed smoothly up until the last few days. Safety Check was glitchy over the weekend, prompting the company to apologies for all of the inconveniences it created.

Initially, the Safety Check feature was developed with natural disasters in mind, but ever since the terrorist attacks in Paris, Facebook has been activating it on every occasion that can be a cause of concern.

So after the bombing in Lahore, Pakistan, the social network activated the safety measure so that people living in the area could let their friends and family know that they are OK and the bombing did not affect the.

But the Safety Check was glitchy over the weekend, so it started sending messages to users from the United States and Europe. Some people actually panicked because they ambiguous messages like

“Facebook Safety Check: Are you affected by the explosion? Reply SAFE if you’re ok or OUT if you aren’t in the area.”

There was no mentioning of the place where the explosion took place so people started panicking thinking that their area was targeted by terrorists.

Other users received more detailed messages and were asked if they were anywhere near Lahore’s Gulshan-i-Iqbal Park in Pakistan.

According to the official statement of a Facebook spokeswoman, the Safety Check was glitchy over the weekend and it sent messages to people that weren’t in the vicinity of the incident, causing even more panic.

Facebook apologized for the misunderstanding and assured the users that the problem was solved and that there will be no further such errors when the Safety Check will be needed in the future. They did not give any details about what caused the problem.

The safety feature was activated numerous time by the social network offering comfort to thousands of users. The first time that it was used in a terrorist attack was last year during the Paris tragedy.

Last week’s Brussels incidents prompted the activation of the seasonal feature. Most Facebook users are pleased with the idea because they are able to find out whether or not their friends and family were involved in the terrible incident.

Zuckerberg declared recently that he received critiques because the social media platform did not activate the Safety Check feature during the bombings in Beirut or any other places previous to Paris.

Safety Check was glitchy over the weekend, but Facebook is assuring users that all problems have now been fixed.

Lights Went Off for Earth Hour

March 28, 2016 By Melissa Gansler Leave a Comment

"Sidney bridge during Earth Hour"

The initiative started in Australia so it was only logical for Sydney to join the movement.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – In the main cities around the world, the lights went off for Earth Hour. Famous monuments were engulfed by darkness, and the cities seemed to freeze in the night. And while no electronic devices were used for 60 minutes, people were able to see witness the real beauty of the night’s sky.

Earth Hour is an Australian initiative that dates from 2007. The concept was created because the Australian people wanted to raise awareness of the importance of energy conservation and the damage caused by light pollution. Slowly but surely, Earth Hour became a global initiative, hundreds of countries adopting it.

Millions of lights went off for Earth Hour this year. Every year the number of people willing to participate in the initiative grows. And it’s not a meaningless trend. The movement was created primarily to raise awareness of the amounts of electricity wasted by humans every day.

And Earth Hour has begun to symbolize more than just wasted electronic resources. Ever since the movement went global, organizers have started approaching other subjects like the increasing amounts of water that people consume when letting the faucet drip. Electricity and clean water are vital for human prosperity so people should be more careful when using both of these valuable resources.

This year millions of people participated in the initiative. And as the lights went off for Earth Hour, the WWF saw that people are willing to engage in a solidary fight against climate change. The WWF is an Earth Hour sponsor and primary educator on the importance of water and electricity saving.

According to their report, Moscow, Seoul, Beijing, Cairo, Beirut, Rome, Athens, Paris and New York turned off their lights and took part in the world movement. Darkness engulfed the Eifel tower, all witnesses stating that the moment was truly emotional and that seeing that giant metal monument sitting there in the dark made them think about the importance of making the world a safe place for our children.

Also, the Empire State Building’s lights were dimmed, and a considerable portion of the Times Square billboards went dark.

The lights went out even in Beijing’s Confucius Temple and Seoul’s City Hall. Even the 101 skyscrapers in Taiwan went dark as the people in Taiwan showed their solidarity with the Earth Hour movement.

Millions of lights went off for Earth Hour, and most of the participants promised to pay more attention to electricity and water waste in the future by turning off the appliances they don’t use and shutting off the lights went exiting a room.
