Facebook Is Not Being Abandoned by Youngsters

April 4, 2016 By Tara Hamilton Leave a Comment

"Facebook"

Facebook is an undefended champion when it comes to the monthly traffic on the social network.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – In 2015, the media and a significant number of investors were anticipating a mass exodus of millennials from Facebook. But the data shows that Facebook is not being abandoned by youngsters, on the contrary, they spend more time on the social network than on Snapchat, its main competitor.

Every trend has its end. And the media and the investors were afraid that Facebook’s demise was just around the corner. But they were wrong. Facebook is not being abandoned by youngsters, on the contrary, they spend more time on it than they do on any other social platform.

According to a study, internet dwellers that were born after the 80s are still using their Facebook account regularly. Even though they are now in their thirties, they did not abandon their favorite social media website.

Furthermore, the same study concluded that millennials spend two and a half more times as many minutes on Zuckerberg’s platform than they do on Snapchat, Facebook’s main competitor.

Facebook is not being abandoned by youngsters, on the contrary, they generate roughly $340 billion per year for the company.

The data used by the report comes from comScore, a US company that analyzes Internet trends. The analytics company showed the amount of internet users with ages between 18 and 34. It also gathered information on the frequency with which the targeted audience uses social media platforms.

As of December last year, approximately one hundred percent of all individuals that live in the United States and that are aged 18 to 34, were active on Facebook.

The same study showed that owners of Facebook accounts spend an average of 1,000 minutes per month on the social network. The second social platform is Snapchat with almost 400 minutes per month.

Furthermore, the data collected by the researchers showed that people aged 35 and older are as active on Facebook as the younger generations. The difference being that they are not interested in any other site other than the now classic social network.

The media and the investors were scared that Facebook will no longer be appealing to the younger generations because they are now flooded with some other social media platforms. But Facebook is not being abandoned by youngsters; they are not ready to leave the mothership and embrace other, less meaningful websites.

Snapchat may be fun, but it can’t offer all that Zuckerberg’s platform can, not even Twitter can rise to the challenge. There is still lots of life remaining in the social network.

Snapchat Purchased Bitmoji’s for $100 million

March 28, 2016 By Tara Hamilton Leave a Comment

"Snapchat"

Snapchat’s popularity is growing and with the latest Bitmoji purchase, its audience will widen.

(Mirror Daily, Unites States) – The video and photo destroyer, Snapchat purchased Bitmoji’s for $100 million. The mobile app’s functions will be soon incorporated into Snapchat, offering users a wider variety of features.

The company did not issue any official statement to explain the reason for their latest acquisition. But rumor has it; Snapchat is trying to improve its features so that the app would appeal more to older generations.

Millennials are thrilled with Snapchat. They take selfies and party pictures, apply filters and text and send them to their peers. But the thing that makes the app different from the thousand more out there is the fact that the pictures, or videos, are automatically erased after a few seconds.

People, especially teenagers and young adults, are more comfortable with the thought of sharing a picture that will go all Mission Impossible in a few seconds, than one that can be stored by the recipient for all eternity.

Of course, there is a failsafe and the person receiving the snap can quickly take a print screen, but that only happens on rare occasions. But as fun, as the app is, it is only appealing to the younger generations. Adults over 30 can easily use Facebook or WhatsApp to share pictures with friends. The privacy options are not that important to them seeing as they don’t party that much.

But things might change, and Snapchat could extend the age limit of its targeted audience with the Bitstrips acquisition. Snapchat purchased Bitmoji’s for $100 million, and that means that even more customization features are coming to the data sharing app.

Bitmoji’s took over the virtual world lately. Everybody, no matter if it was a teen or a mother of two was busy creating an avatar. And the app allowed you to create realistic versions of yourself with Superman, Game of Thrones, Deadpool, Iron Man and many other famous characters’ features.

Customization is the key when it comes to pleasing a wider target, and Snapchat realized this before anybody else did. So soon enough, users of the file sharing app will be able to make their own, personal avatars and share them with their friends.

Snapchat purchased Bitmoji’s for $100 million, but there are big chances that the company will recover the investment in a small amount of time. Judging by the popularity of the customizable emoticons, it is highly likely that the targeted audience of the app will grow wider, thus bringing in more profit.

Keep Track of Your Child’s Apps

March 4, 2016 By Tara Hamilton Leave a Comment

"Texting"

There are a couple of apps on the market that could prove to be dangerous for your children.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – Technology is evolving at a fast pace. There are more new apps daily than there were newspapers a decade ago. The problem is not only the flooded tech market but also the fact that children nowadays are engaging in various activities that are not appropriate for their age. And when you’re a full-functioning adult, it’s rather difficult to keep track of your child’s apps and photos.

We have compiled a list of eight apps that might give you a hint if your child has something to hide from peering parents eyes or not. Only the presence of some of these mobile applications on their phones is a good indicator that there might also be lewd photos somewhere around in there.

Secure Vault

It doesn’t matter if your child is an Apple or Android fan. Both stores contain hundreds of apps that can be used as file lockers.

One of the most popular is the Secure Vault designed for Apple users. If your children already have passcodes on their phones, it’s obvious that they are trying to hide information from somebody who knows their secret code, rather than their peers.

So if you see that your child has Secure Vault, or other file locker app installed, you better be on the lookout because he/she is trying to hide something.

Keep Safe

This app basically runs like the Secure Vault; only it takes things a little further. If somebody is trying to break-in the mobile device, the app takes a picture of the “intruder”.

Calculator%

This is one of the sneakiest file lockers apps. It looks and runs like an ordinary calculator, but it doubles as a secret file container. In order to access hidden files, the user must type the period sign two times.

Apart from being protected by the calculator display, the file locker is also password-encrypted. The app is starting to be very popular among adolescents, especially since it also features a sort of “panic button” that takes the user back to the cover window in an instant.

ASKfm

This is a new, trending social network. The main idea behind it is a lot like Yahoo Answers. Somebody posts a question and then receives anonymous replies.

Basically, it’s a kind of interesting platform, but, unfortunately, most children who ask something end up being bullied by other mean users.

Snapchat

This is one of the most popular apps today. The functioning principle is simple. You take photos or videos of yourself, add some glittery writing and some graphics and then send it to your friends. The app deletes the photos after a few moments, but the recipients can take screenshots.

The app is potentially dangerous seeing as most children who use it think that their friends would never keep mementos of their intimate messages. But as said before, adolescents are mean.

LINE

The risk of this one is purely financial. LINE is a messaging app that is growing very fast. While the program itself is free, there is a vast array of in-app purchases that can considerably raise your phone bill or empty your credit card.

While LINE is designed to require parental permission, it does not verify this.

Kik.

If you want to keep track of your child’s apps, then by all means be on the lookout for kik.

It’s basically a sexting app, and it can be used by children who lie about their location, age or identity, but it also may be used by deranged adults who do the same.

BurnNote

BurnNote is a Snapchat for instant messages. It’s supposed to keep all of your conversations a secret because it destroys all texts after the recipients read them. But as in the case of Snapchat, print screens could be taken, and intimate thoughts could become very public.

In this day and age, it is paramount to keep track of your child’s apps. Especially since there are certain ones, like those included on our list, which can lead to severe bullying or social pressure.

Snapchat Treats You with a New Filter for Your Birthday

February 24, 2016 By Ryan Harris Leave a Comment

"Snapchat logo"

Snapchat is desperately trying to bring new, entertaining features to its users.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – Snapchat really wants people to feel special on their birthdays, which is why the mobile app is treating its users with a new, special birthday filter. The exclusive feature can only be used once a year, on your birthday.

Facebook sends notifications to all your friends and invites them to wish you a happy birthday, and now Snapchat treats you with a new filter for your birthday. Soon enough, social media platforms will be the most important way of reaching people on their special, yearly celebrations.

The mobile messaging app, Snapchat, revealed its new “birthday party” feature this Tuesday. Now users can take a selfie, apply a “happy birthday” filter that features classical cake-like writing, balloons and candles, and send it to all their friends in order to, well, remind them that it’s their birthday.

If that sounds like your piece of cake, then all you have to do is go to the Settings menu and input your birthday. The app will then notify you on your special day, and also add a cake emoji next to your name so that friends and loved ones are also reminded of the importance of the day.

On one hand, it’s a pretty nice gesture that seems user-oriented. On the other, it may be that Snapchat wanted to do something special for its users in order to keep up the pace with Facebook.

The social media giant just announced a new feature that will be available soon for Android users. Anybody who has a Facebook account will be able to record a short, 15 seconds video, frame it in the different birthday-themed framework and post it on the wall of the respective friend.

The customizable videos are new to social media, so Facebook wins again in the innovation department. Also, the birthday cake emoji was implemented by Zuckerberg’s company before it was cool.

Snapchat treats you with a new filter for your birthday, letting you choose from balloons, a glittery “Happy Birthday” or a cake emoji in order to embellish your photos.

The filter would make sense in a different context. Like, for example, taking a picture at your birthday party surrounded by your friends, applying the said filter and then posting it on a social media platform like Facebook or Instagram.

But then again, why wouldn’t you take a selfie, write Happy Birthday on it and send it to your friends and family. The birthday cake emoji next to your name could go unnoticed.
