Super Clio Prize Was Awarded to Jeep’s “Portraits”

February 9, 2016 By Joe Hennessey Leave a Comment

"Super Clio Prize Was Awarded to Jeep’s “Portraits” "

Jeep’s “Portraits” commercial featured both famous and anonymous people because Jeep is for everybody.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – This year’s second Super Clio Prize was awarded to Jeep’s “Portraits”, a touching commercial that focuses more on the people that made Jeep the brand that it is today. And with a “cast” like Steve McQueen, Marilyn Monroe, the Terminator robot and dinosaur battling Jeff Goldblum, they could not have done a better commercial.

The idea behind Jeep’s “Portraits” was not to promote the new car that the brand has developed, but rather the people that have used Jeep vehicles throughout the history. So they focused more on nostalgia and created a black and white masterpiece that won the second Super Clio Award.

The minute-long commercial was developed by Iris Worldwide and it was meant to promote the latest Fiat Chrysler. But the car wasn’t the star of the video, emotions and people were. The stunning black and white photographs were combined with quick flashes of the new Fiat Chrysler while a soothing voice explained why Jeep is the brand of the people.

And they did a magnificent job underlining the fact that Jeep always designed and manufactured vehicles that were used by all sorts of people from kings and queens to simple army men that drove them during missions in World War II.

The second Super Clio Prize was awarded to Jeep’s “Portraits” and it is clearly as black on white why.

But there were two more finalists in the battle for the Super Clio Prize and they were equally stunning from a visual point of view.

The “Marilyn” commercial for Snickers featured none other than Willem DaFoe dressed in the iconic white dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in the “Seven Year Itch” scene that has become a popular culture reference when Marilyn stands over a vent and she tries to catch her white loose dress before it revealed more than was appropriate but enough for the scene to become as legendary as she was.

The “you’re not you when you’re hungry” Snickers motto takes a whole new meaning when you see Willem DaFoe’s feet in high heels complaining about the stupidity of the iconic scene.

The third finalist for the Super Clio Prize was Grey’s “Super Bowl Choir”. The three-minute video features a cover of Seal’s “Kiss from a rose” sang by Super Bowl children. It seems that every year, exactly nine months after the Super Bowl, the town from which the winning team originated experiences a boom in childbirth. The children are called Super Bowl children.

The video is very touching and it reveals a side of the Super Bowl that has nothing to do with competing, but rather loving. And the generations of children that participated in the making of the video are a live testament that some American traditions are worth being kept. And football is the greatest American sport.

Last year’s Super Clio Prize was awarded to a Snickers ad that featured a very hungry Danny Trejo and an angry and left aside Steve Buscemi. But it seems that this year the focus fell more on nostalgia and deep emotions, rather than comedy. Although Snickers always knew how to make good comedy.

Scott Kelly Hosted a Super Bowl Party in Outer Space

February 8, 2016 By Tara Hamilton Leave a Comment

"Facebook image of the stadium on the Super Bowl weekend"

Kelly passed by the Levi’s stadium on Sunday and managed to snap some Super Bowl pictures.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – The Super Bowl usually gathers the highest amounts of people in front of the TV. There are only a few times in history when the final game didn’t record world-breaking views, and the MASH series finale is one of them. Astronaut Scott Kelly hosted a super bowl party in outer space to honor the American tradition, but sadly, people had other engagements and couldn’t attend his gathering.

In a social media post, the astronaut Scott Kelly announced that he also hosted a Super Bowl Party on the ISS, but nobody managed to attend. He was quite upset by the no-show and said that he would have treated his guests with nachos.

This year’s game between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos that was broadcasted live from the Levi’s Stadium this Sunday was watched not only on the television screens from across the world but also from far into space.

The astronaut Scott Kelly tuned in this Sunday from the Space Station to watch how the Carolina Panthers took on the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl finale that took place this Sunday. And even though he sent out a public invitation, nobody managed to come to keep him company and eat his nachos.

Kelly flew over the area of the San Francisco Bay this Sunday and he managed to snap a few photos of the Levi’s Stadium. When he uploaded them on a social media platform he accompanied the photographs with a text saying that he managed to attend the Super Bowl finale in person.

The only impediment was that his seat was only 250 miles above the stadium and he was traveling with a speed of approximately 17,500 miles per hour, which means that his visit did not last very long.

Scott Kelly celebrated 317 days on the ISS on Sunday. He and Mihail Korniyenko, a Russian astronaut, are currently in the middle of a research upon the effects of such a long space-exposure has on the human body and on the health of the astronaut.

The two astronauts will only have to stay for a bit longer on the ISS, the experiment being designed for a time frame of one year.

Maybe when he gets back on solid ground he will be surprised with an actual party with many people and other food except nachos and space rations. And who knows, being such a fan he might just be visited by the Super Bowl winning team.

Don’t Score Extra Weight this Super Bowl Weekend

"Don’t Score Extra Weight this Super Bowl Weekend"

The Super Bowl weekend is known for the extraordinary amounts of food that the Americans eat while watching the game.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – This weekend is all about the game, the commercials, the friends, the traditions, the food and the fun. But you should pay attention so you don’t score extra weight this Super Bowl weekend.

The Super Bowl weekend is about so much more than the actual game. It’s that time of the year when you meet with friends you haven’t seen since the New Year’s party or last year’s Super Bowl. And the tradition, don’t forget the tradition where everybody gathers around the TV at somebody’s house and they start munching anxiously.

This year food suppliers have prepared themselves for a big demand for chicken wings (approximately 1.3 billion) and pizzas (more than 4 million). And these are the most popular take-out foods. When you start adding the chips, peanuts, dips, pretzels, candy, home-made burgers and hotdogs and the soda that you eat in between the chicken wings and the pizza, you realize that it’s quite easy to add a few extra pounds in only one weekend.

But there are a few ways in which you can make sure you don’t score extra weight this Super Bowl weekend.

Walk to and from your friend’s house

If you’re among the guests of a Super Bowl weekend gathering you should seriously take into consideration the possibility of walking to and from your friend’s house. There will be plenty of calories just sitting there on the table, and no matter how much your favorite team scores, you won’t burn them by lifting from the couch, yelling at the screen or singing along to Beyoncé on half-time.

The longer the walk, the easier it is to burn those potato chips that you dipped in the guacamole sauce. If you live too far away, consider taking the bus and getting off a few station earlier.

If you’re the one hosting the party, try walking with your friends when they leave. Or do extra errands after you clean the place up.

Try to eat a narrower array of foods

It’s easy to loose count of the calories you consumed when you eat only a slice of pizza, two chicken wings, some pretzels, some chips and a hot dog. All of these watered down with beer and soda. Instead, try focusing on just one, or two appetizers the entire night and one main course. You will notice easier just how much you had to eat and stop sooner.

Better beer than soda

Beer and soda have a lot of calories, but soda also contains a dangerous amount of added sugar which adds a couple of pounds and increases the risk of developing diabetes. A light beer or a ginger beer are more recommended for you. Plus they come in smaller containers so you can keep better track on how much you had to drink.

All in all, the best thing you could do this weekend is have fun and hit the gym starting Monday.
