Oculus Rift Launches Quietly

March 28, 2016 By Joe Hennessey Leave a Comment

"Oculus Rift"

The Oculus Rift is launched alongside the Virtual Desktop that allows you to work in VR.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – The Oculus Rift launches quietly today after the world held its breath expecting it. There will be no party, no big event, just boxes containing the much-awaited headsets arriving at the doors of the people that pre-ordered them.

Every time a new console or video game is launched, the media goes wild. There are several release events; journalists receive the product for testing a few days before so that the reviews would fly in on the day of the launching and the marketing campaign throws it all in.

But not this time. The Oculus Rift launches quietly today, Palmer Luckey being more interested in working on the new batch of headsets than parading them in front of media.

Luckey built his first pair of VR goggles 4 year ago using smartphone parts. Now, the Oculus Rift technology is the property of Facebook ever since 2014 and an improved version of the Rift is hitting the market starting today.

The first wave of products has already been sold out and those who didn’t manage to pre-order it will have to wait until this summer to get their hands on the $600 equipment. The headset is sold by itself for the moment.

According to the manufacturer, sometime this summer a controller for Xbox One and a couple of games will become available for the Rift, but they will be sold separately. The company did not mention a price for the motion-detecting devices.

The maker of the Oculus Rift expects that the life span of the device will be somewhere between a console and a phone. He also believes that there will come a day when the VR devices will be as slim as sunglasses, not ski goggles.

On April 5th, the day Civil War will hit the theaters, the new HTC Vive will also hit the market. The VR headset will cost $800, and it will be equipped with controllers that kind of look like wands, but that will offer customers the opportunity of enjoying VR while standing.

Also, this October will be marked by the launch of the PlayStation VR, a headset designed primarily for the PlayStation IV console. The cost of the equipment is estimated around $400, and it will only be compatible with the PlayStation device.

The CEO of Unity, John Riccitiello, says that the VR market is a long way from becoming an industry. He believes that the developers should make baby steps to avoid any drawbacks. If everything goes as planned, by 2019, the Rift technology will become an industry.

The Oculus Rift launches quietly today, a small step for the virtual reality community.

Working While Using Oculus Rift

March 27, 2016 By Matthew Slotkin Leave a Comment

"Oculus Rift Headset"

VR environments will soon take over the market, and gaming will not be the only application.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – Next week Guy Godin will launch a VR desktop application alongside the much-awaited Rift. And the new feature will allow people to do a lot more than gaming on their computer. That is why some tech aficionados already tried working while using Oculus Rift.

Jeff Grub over at Venture Beat tried working while using Oculus Rift to see if the desktop feature will be of any use to any VR fans. And it seems that even though the experience was a bit nauseating, at the end he felt like he could pull off an eight-hour work day in the virtual environment.

The Virtual Desktop will be compatible with both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. It may be that the creators of the Rift are trying to get ahead on the virtual reality market. Statics show that by 2020, VR will be a $30 billion industry.

And the Virtual Desktop is not the only non-gaming thing connected to the VR headsets that are currently flooding the market. The popular adult content website, Porn Hub, recently announced that its movies will be available for VR rendering. The site is also offering 10,000 free headsets to its users.

But back to working while using Oculus Rift. According to Grubb, it takes a little to get used to the experience, but at the end, it’s worth it. Especially when your job is to play games and write about it at the end of the day.

It seems that the text can be a little blurry, but the Virtual Desktop comes with a lot of settings options so you can adapt the screen to your preferences.

Furthermore, a great feature is the fact that you can play black videos at 360 degrees. Imagine the details that will no longer be lost with such an experience.

Moreover, the virtual screen is able to support multiple monitors so that you won’t lose the widescreen feel. It also features a theater mode, so users will not have to wait around for Hulu or Netflix to whip up a VR app.

Also, the Virtual Desktop comes with a few voice command options, so you won’t have to spin your head around trying to find the mouse.

Grub describes the entire experience as “having a 60-inch screen 2 feet from your face”. That sounds like a dizzying work day, but the eyes adjust to the environment pretty quick.

Working while using Oculus Rift sounds like a unique experience. VR enthusiasts worldwide will be able to check out the Virtual Desktop and the new Rift starting the 28th of this month.

Until then, you can check out the video embedded below for more details on how working while using Oculus Rift really feels.

One of the largest providers of adult entertainment in the world announced that the flicks will be available in virtual reality mode soon enough. And the good news is still rolling, because Porn Hub will also give away 10,000 VR headsets to its users.

Virtual reality technology has been storming the gaming market ever since the first headset was available. Unreal Engine 4 is making game developers’ jobs easier and more enjoyable, and the gaming community is thrilled with the unlimited possibilities that the platform is offering.

But gaming is not the single use of the cutting edge technology. According to the latest announcement made by Porn Hub, soon you will be able to watch your favorite porn movies in VR. The company estimates that virtual reality adult content will be a $1 billion market.

Porn Hub, one of the largest providers of adult entertainment just announced that they will be adding a VR category to their website. By doing so, the adult-oriented free website will become a pioneer. Also, the move will probably generate millions of new views and tons of traffic.

In order to promote their offer, the people behind Porn Hub are offering 10,000 free headsets. This is probably their way of thanking long-time users and creating new ones. The only things users need is a smartphone and a Porn Hub account.

According to an official statement was given by the website’s representatives, the clients will be able to integrate themselves in the movies, feel like they are taking part in the action. Porn Hub is offering the users the opportunity of interacting with their favorite stars and staring in their own fantasy.

The videos made in partnership with BaDonkVR will be available to Android and iOS users. There is no news about Blackberry or Lumia owners, but chances are they will not be able to access the videos anytime soon.

Porn Hubs vice president, Corey Price, issued a statement in which he declared that the company is always trying to keep pace with all of the developments in the world of technology. And since virtual reality was the next logical step, they couldn’t deny progress.

Price even encouraged users to formulate a request for the free VR headsets offered by the company. The vice president was keen on mentioning the fact that Porn Hub is always thinking about the needs and expectations of the customers.

So you will soon be able to watch your favorite porn movies in VR, thanks to the adult website.

Minecraft Still Needs Work In the VR Department

March 17, 2016 By Tara Hamilton Leave a Comment

"Minecraft"

Playing Minecraft in VR is like playing Lego in a world where giant spiders or zombies are real.

(Mirror Daily, United States) – There have been lots of talks about the fact that the famous pixelated game that united players of all age will be soon available to play in virtual reality, only the thought of walking into the world of blocks made some people sick in the stomach with excitement. But according to those who already tested the device, it actually does make you a sick, so Minecraft still needs work in the VR department.

There have been some people who already tested the Gear VR for the S7 model from Samsung Galaxy, and they were very disappointed with the system’s performance. According to them, Minecraft still needs work in the VR department because the experience made them sick in the stomach.

While the perspective of playing Minecraft in virtual reality is exciting for most, some are not so happy with the thought. The lack of excitement is mainly due to the fact that they had the opportunity of experiencing the game, and they were not blown away by how it behaves in the new environment.

Many believe Minecraft still needs work in the VR department because the commands are not responding as smoothly as they should, and the sudden changes in perspective are causing the players to get dizzy and abandon the game.

There are two ways in which the block-based pixelated open-world first person perspective survival game. The first is in cinema mode which is not exactly the most exciting one. You can benefit from basically the same experience while playing on a PC with a huge monitor, or a console attached to a wide television.

But the cinema mode is the only one that allows the players to exit the game with a clear head. Mainly because most of the gamers that were able to test the building game in full virtual reality mode said that Minecraft still needs work in the VR department.

Those who tested Minecraft with the Oculus Rift technology were disappointed in the fact that the commands were a bit stiff, and the menu was floating away in the distance, the words too small to be deciphered. They were also bothered by the touch that has to be used alongside the headset, saying that it made the action move too slow.

There were other who tested the VR edition for mobile devices. According to them, the controls are awkward to use and a quarter of an hour of gaming leaves you spending 20 minutes trying to regain control of your stomach and head.

It appears that Minecraft still needs work in the VR department, but they do have some more time to perfect any glitches before the game is officially launched for virtual reality platforms this summer.
