(Mirror Daily, United States) – Dunkin’ Donuts has launched Donut Fries, a highly caloric but delicious menu item that some Dunkin’ Donuts fans are already crazy about.
The “fries” consist in French fries-shaped doughnuts, which promise to be the perfect snack for a life on the run.
The chain released the treat on Monday in the United States only. What’s more, Donut fries will have a discounted initial price – $2 – at all participating locations.
The snack contains doughnut dough covered in cinnamon-flavored sugar. So, forget about the cake-like dough in the traditionally shaped doughnuts.
Nutritionists warn however that the new snack is a calorie bomb. Only five “sticks” pack 240 calories, 14 gr of fat, and a lot of sugar. In addition, five “fries” contain 40% of the amount of saturated fat you should consume in a day.
Nevertheless, a traditional glazed doughnut or a jelly doughnut pack even more calories: 260 calories and 280 calories respectively.
Customers Enjoyed Donut Fries in Initial Test
The company first tested Donut fries in April in Boston. As customers enjoyed the new product, Dunkin’ Donuts decided to roll it out nationally.
There was a strong consumer response towards bringing Donut Fries to all Americans during the initial test,
a spokesperson for the coffee chain said.
Yet, Dunkin’ has launched other pastries since the start of the year. What’s more, the company plans a name change. Last year, the chain dropped the apostrophe in its name at a location in Pasadena California. This year, it will decide whether the change will be applied to all U.S. restaurants.
Dunkin’ recently stated that the new menu items are created with the customer in mind. The company promised to keep the customer “at the center” after the re-branding efforts as well.
